We’re facing a brain health emergency marked by rising mental health issues, autism diagnoses, and antidepressant use. Alzheimer’s and dementia are the culmination of a process that’s impacting the next generation. Observations include falling IQ and shrinking brain size, tied to diet. It’s vital to take charge of our brain health through lifestyle modifications, stress reduction, and prioritizing well-being.

Are we facing a brain health emergency? This is literally a statement from a confederation of neuroscience societies across Europe. It bounces off a recent study that shows in the Lancet, a major global study that 43% of the world’s population, that’s 3.4 billion people have disability right now due to a brain or neurological or mental health problem. Ranging all the way from autism to A DHD brain health problems are costing more than all of cancer and heart disease. And some combined, we’ve had a tripling of referrals for mental health problems in children. We have one in 36 children now diagnosed with autism. That is a fourfold increase in 20 years. We have one in six children classified as neurodivergent, needing special education. We have at least one in six adults on antidepressants and many more hooked on sleeping pills. Dementia is going through the roof. What is going on? This is an emergency. And the point is that when we get interested in the subject of Alzheimer’s and dementia, which is in the news every single day, we realize that this is the end result of a process that is occurring to our children, to our next generation. And we already know so much about what is driving this. The Scandinavian research shows that IQ is falling by 7%. And the real shocker, and just think about this, is that our brains homosapiens brains have shrunk by 20%. 20,000 years ago, our brain size was 1700 grams. Today the average brain size is 1,330 grams. Brain size, shrinking iq, falling mental health problems going through the roof. We have to start to understand what it was that created homo sapiens in the first place. What were those conditions of existence? And we know that our ancestors ate wild food plant foods, a lot of marine foods high in omega threes, high in be vitamins, incredibly low in sugar, incredibly rich in antioxidants. And it was this diet that created our brain. And we have now created a perfect storm of brain degeneration. And if we don’t put this number one on the health agenda, both for ourselves and our countries and societies, things are gonna get very, very messy. So my advice to you is take charge of your own health. You are the architect of your brain’s future destiny. Find out what you need to know to make the changes. It means eating whole foods. It means cutting back on sugar, supplementing omega threes, eating more seafood, supplementing antioxidants and vitamin C, eating more fruit, veg, herbs and spices. Exercising more, engaging your mind, learning new things, sleeping well. It’s very important. And do whatever you can to reduce your stress and increase your stress. Resilience, your future brain health is under your control. Your in the driving seat.
