Here’s something they didn’t teach you in health class, having more muscle can help you breathe better. In today’s daily news, we’re looking at a new study from South Korea that shows your lung health isn’t just about cardio, it’s about your muscle to fat ratio. Very interesting study in a nutshell. The more muscle you have and the less fat you have, the better your lungs function. And if you’re losing muscle, well, unfortunately, let’s just say your lung power might be going downhill faster than your motivation on leg day. Now, researchers followed over 4,700 people over eight years. They found that those who increased their muscle mass relative to fat, had healthier lungs and were less likely to develop airflow problems. In other words, lifting weights isn’t just about looking good, it’s about breathing better. But why does muscle help your lungs? Well, according to the study, the stronger your diaphragm and rib supporting muscles, the easier it is to inhale and exhale deeply. On the flip side, excess fat, especially around the abdomen, can physically restrict your lungs from expanding properly. And one more thing, this benefit was strongest in non-smokers. If you’re a smoker, well, unfortunately muscles alone won’t completely do the trick here. Now, let’s be clear. You don’t need to be a bodybuilder, okay? Even small improvements in muscle can help slow down the natural decline in lung function as you age. So next time you’re debating between the couch or maybe a quick strength workout, just remember more muscle equals more air equals happier lungs. Now here’s a question. Would you hit the gym more often if it meant better breathing? Well, let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to like, subscribe and share this with that one friend who skips leg day every single time. We’ll catch you next time on the Daily News.
