The Backwards Brain and Body Boost You Should Try Very Carefully!

Transcript

On today’s daily news, we’re going to literally take a step back
’cause we’re talking about some pretty cool benefits of walking backwards. Now, I would like to mention I have tried it myself, and let me just say, no matter how you do it, you’re simply not gonna look cool. Okay, so let’s just kick this off with a quote from One Fitness Pro featured in a recent article in Well and good.com. Who says this, backward walking is relatively low risk. It’s something novel to add to your workout program to make it more challenging. And who doesn’t love spicing up their usual boring routine? Right? So here’s the interesting part. This isn’t just about mixing things up, walking backwards, which is also known as retro walking, funny enough, does have some serious benefits. So here’s why it might be worth giving it a try. Think of walking backwards as a delightful little wake up call for your muscles that you don’t normally fully engage. Think about your quads, uh, maybe your shins and even your glutes. But even more than that is that it can help prevent those nagging injuries that just keep popping up. And plus, there’s far less strain on the joints. For example, if you have issues with your knees, this can strengthen your quads and that’s gonna provide some much needed relief. And funny enough, it also challenges your sense of space and balance. Here’s the kicker, though. You can even level up your cardio fitness without feeling like you just ran an entire marathon. It has the ability to boost your heart’s health at a comfortable and yet slower pace. And if that’s not a win, I don’t know what is. Strengthening the muscles that support your spine can also help ease your lower back pain as well. So if you’re tired of that achy feeling, retro walking might just be your new go-to. And crazy enough, it doesn’t even stop there because walking backwards fires up your brain. Engaging the part that handles memory and decision making and research does suggest that it could even help improve your recall ability. Now finally, before you completely write this off as a whole, mastering Backward movement does have some real world benefits. Think about cruising through a really busy aisle at Home Depot. Or maybe you’re dodging a rogue scooter on the sidewalk. Whatever the case, retro walking has the potential to seriously level up your agility. But researchers do suggest start slow. Literally just try walking backwards on a treadmill. But please, for your sake and for mine, hold onto those handrails. And if you’re heading outdoors, stick to a flat familiar path. And just for good measure, maybe bring a friend to guide you.
’cause safety first style, far second. Give backward walking a shot and let us know how it goes in the comments. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share this with your friends who are always up for a challenge. Thanks so much for joining us on The Daily News.
