Ever wish you could slow down aging, maybe turn back the clock even just a little while. Today in the Daily News, we’ll be discussing a new study posted in The Guardian that shows how popping an Omega-3 supplement daily could do exactly that, turn back the aging clock, at least in a biological sense. Here’s the scoop. Researchers tracked nearly 800 people over
70 years old in a clinical trial called DO Health. Do Health stands for vitamin D Omega-3 and exercise health study reflecting the three key interventions tested in the trial. This study participants took one gram of Omega-3 every day. Over a three year period, those participants aged three months less than their peers. And when they added vitamin D and regular exercise, that number jumped to four months, four months less aging. The science behind it is fascinating. Researchers use something called epigenetic clocks to measure DNA Methylation. Methylation is tiny chemical changes in our DNA that basically act as biological timestamps. The results, Omega-3 seemed to slow down the aging process at the cellular level, and this isn’t just about looking younger. This study found real health benefits too, don’t believe me. Well, let’s look at the stats here. Omega-3 users had 10% fewer falls, which is a big deal for seniors.
13% fewer infections, 39% lower risk of pre frailty, that early stage before full-blown frailty, and 61% fewer invasive cancers, which is huge. So I mean, have we discovered the Fountain of Youth? Well, one of the study senior authors admitted that while Omega-3 vitamin D and exercise can help, they’re not the cure for aging. Still, he’s committed to keeping them in his routine. Saying this, the findings reinforce my commitment to taking a low dose Omega-3, vitamin D and exercising regularly, all in moderation. So what’s the big takeaway from the article? Regular exercise, A balanced diet and a few smart supplements could extend your health span. So the question is, will you be adding this trifecta to your routine?
