Nutritionist Natasha Paroutis explains the age-based benefits of collagen supplements. From our early twenties, we start losing collagen at a rate of 1% per year, affecting hair, skin, nails, and joints. This loss can lead to fine lines, wrinkles, and slower muscle recovery in mid-twenties to early forties. Collagen supplements can aid hair support and muscle recovery for those in their early forties to mid-fifties. Women, particularly during menopause, and men can also benefit from collagen supplements.

Are you young and wanna preserve your collagen? Or maybe you’re dealing with joint pain and you’re curious about collagen supplements. We’re glad you’re here. My name is Natasha. I’m a nutritionist and I’m gonna talk about who can benefit from collagen supplements. I wanna start by saying, if you’re younger than 20, you don’t need to take collagen supplements because you have all the collagen that you need. Your skin is young and fresh and plump. But if you’re over 20, you’re a great candidate to start taking collagen. Why is that? Well, in our early twenties, we start to lose collagen at a rate of 1% per year. So this would be a great time to start introducing collagen supplements to help to support our body with this decline. Now, as we move a bit older, we have people in their mid twenties and early forties. That’s me, and this is the age where we start to notice those fine lines wrinkles, slower muscle recovery after exercise. So this group can benefit from supplementation for sure. Next, we have people in their early forties to mid fifties, and they might be looking for help with hair support and muscle recovery, and collagen can help with both of those things. Actually, the American Academy of Dermatology says that women’s skin loses about 30% of its collagen during the first five years of menopause. So by this time in your life, if you haven’t thought about supporting your collagen levels, this would be a great time to start. And then we have people in their fifties to seventies. There’s a lot of research on how supplementation can help support joint pain associated with osteoarthritis. And if you’re in this age category and you’re thinking, is it too late? I have good news. Many clinical studies have followed a wide range of age groups from people in their twenties, but all the way through to people in their fifties, sixties, and even older, that have shown significant benefits from collagen supplementation. So to sum it all up, really, anyone over the age of 20 can benefit from collagen supplements, whether it’s for their hair, skin, nails, or joints. You may have noticed that collagen supplements are typically geared towards women, but what about men? Check out the links in the description down below to learn more.
