Description

Echinacea (purple coneflower) species are perennial herbs native to midwestern North America. Of the nine species, E. angustifolia, E. purpurea, and E. pallida are most commonly used.

Echinacea has been extensively studied for its immune-enhancing and infection-fighting properties. It has been shown to effectively reduce the duration and severity of common colds.

  • Echinacea: Available in powdered form, tinctures, liquid extracts, and capsules.

Dosage

  • Dried root: 1–2 g three times daily.
  • Tincture (1:5): 3–4 mL three times daily.
  • Fluid extract (1:1): 1–2 mL three times daily.
